Seniores Online in a few words

For too long, over-65 generation has been considered “lost” to the digital world. Today, however, it is the true driving force behind the contemporary “Silver Economy.” Over-65 generation now consists of experienced users of digital tools, using them to socialize, access available services, and enjoy life by joining various communities. In Piedmont, the activity of this “sector” is impressive, and there is growing synergy among local organizations that, by “working together,” strengthen their presence, their offerings, and their ability to form both real and potentially virtual communities.

The COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic and its dramatic impact on older adults demonstrated how essential it is to create a virtual community—an online social network to connect people over 60, providing them with information, support, and a sense of community even from a distance and in times when traditional channels no longer function effectively. The health crisis and the related changes to lifestyles highlighted the need to provide additional cultural and communication tools to seniors over 65, enabling them to better handle emergencies or even simply transform daily routines through digital means.

The goal of Seniores Online is to create a social platform—both physical and virtual—to fulfill the need for connection, knowledge, information, culture, and activity among people over 65. It aims to foster a network of both online and offline communications for and among people over 65 living in a given area. The social network platform is designed to be independent of current global platforms, prioritizing autonomy, data usage control, and privacy.

Seniores Online community seeks to become a driver of social innovation and a local player by evolving into a knowledge-based community—an active community for change and the creation of a richer, more diverse social environment.
